Providing Clean Water and Business Skills: ONE Foundation’s Impact in Ndi Ejezie

ONE Foundation’s Commitment to Health, Food Security, and Economic Empowerment

At Okeke Nwogu Ejezie Foundation (ONE Foundation), we are dedicated to impacting our communities through sustainable projects that address critical issues such as infant mortality, food security, and economic empowerment.

As part of our ongoing efforts, we recently provided a pipe-bore water system for Ndi Ejezie Primary Health Care Center. This initiative ensures access to clean and safe drinking water, reducing waterborne diseases and improving overall health outcomes, especially for infants and nursing mothers. Clean water is a fundamental necessity in the fight against infant mortality and food insecurity, and we are committed to ensuring that local communities have the resources they need.

Beyond healthcare, we believe in empowering individuals through knowledge and skills development. In line with this vision, ONE Foundation successfully trained 50 women and youths in business development, entrepreneurship, and digital marketing. This initiative equips them with valuable skills to start and grow their businesses, creating economic opportunities and fostering self-sufficiency.

The Renewed Hope Initiative: Accelerating Birth Registration for Nigerian Children

The Renewed Hope Initiative: Accelerating Birth Registration for Nigerian Children

The Renewed Hope Initiative is a collaborative effort led by the Government of Nigeria, with support from UNICEF and other stakeholders, aimed at accelerating birth registration across the country. The initiative seeks to strengthen civil registration systems to ensure every child in Nigeria has a legal identity, which is critical for access to education, healthcare, and social services.

Why Birth Registration Matters

Birth registration is more than just a legal formality—it provides children with a recognized identity and helps protect their rights. Here are some key reasons why this initiative is crucial:

  1. Access to Basic Services
Children with registered births are more likely to access essential services such as education, healthcare, and social benefits.
  2. Protection from Exploitation
Birth registration helps protect children from exploitation, including child labor, trafficking, and underage marriage, by providing proof of age.
  3. National Planning and Development
Accurate birth records enable governments to plan better for public services, ensuring that resources reach the people who need them most.

Challenges to Birth Registration in Nigeria

Despite efforts to improve the system, several challenges persist:

  • Limited Awareness: Many parents in rural areas are unaware of the importance of birth registration.
  • Distance to Registration Centers: Families in remote communities often struggle to access registration services.
  • Administrative Bottlenecks: Lack of modern infrastructure and trained personnel makes the process slow and inefficient.

How the Renewed Hope Initiative is Making a Difference

The Renewed Hope Initiative aims to address these challenges through several targeted actions:

  • Strengthening Civil Registration Systems: The initiative works to modernize Nigeria’s civil registration infrastructure to make the process more efficient.
  • Community Engagement and Awareness Campaigns: Through collaboration with UNICEF and local partners, the program raises awareness about the importance of birth registration, especially in rural communities.
  • Mobile Registration Units: To reach underserved areas, mobile units bring birth registration services closer to families.
  • Training of Personnel: The initiative builds capacity for civil registration officers to ensure high-quality service delivery.

The Role of Stakeholders and Partners

The Government of Nigeria leads the Renewed Hope Initiative in collaboration with UNICEF and other partners, including civil society organizations, traditional leaders, and healthcare providers. This multi-sectoral approach ensures a coordinated and sustainable effort to improve birth registration systems across the country.

How You Can Support the Renewed Hope Initiative

Everyone has a role to play in ensuring that every child in Nigeria is counted:

  • Spread Awareness: Educate parents and guardians about the importance of birth registration for their children’s future.
  • Volunteer: Join community outreach efforts to support mobile registration drives.
  • Advocate: Encourage local leaders and government representatives to prioritize civil registration as part of national development efforts.

Towards a Future with Legal Identity for All

With the Renewed Hope Initiative, Nigeria is making significant progress toward ensuring that every child has a legal identity. A registered birth is the first step toward a future where all children are protected, included, and empowered to access opportunities. Together, we can build a Nigeria where no child is left behind.
